Facts about Co. Roscommon
Roscommon, located in the west of Ireland, is bordered to the east and west by the rivers Shannon and Suck respectively, which meet in the south of the county.
The county is mostly low-lying, and forms part of the central plain of Ireland.
It has a rich natural heritage, from the Shannon callows in the south, through raised bogs and limestone pasture, to the uplands of the north.
Lough Key Forest Park is an important ecological habitat, and St. Johns Wood has been described as one of the best preserved ancient woods in the country.
